Aaminah Butt -  Make-up Artist and Stylist-Interview

Q. What drives you? (What makes you so passionate about your work)

A. I am Aaminah Butt, a free-lance make-up graduated by LCM (The London College of Make-up). I keep looking for opportunities to beautify people with my skill set. By profession I’m a make-up artist and a stylist.

Q. How did you get here and how long have you been in this profession (or been doing what you do)?

A. I started working back in 2013, but I’ve always been enthusiastic about colors, and how attractively they can be used to enhance features. A blend of skill and desire inspired me to professionally qualify my talent and hence my degree. I’ve worked with photographers and designers as a stylist and make-up artist(mua) also and was with Geo productions at Phegency as their head mua /stylist. Creative, themed and sfx(special effects)make-up has also been a pronounced area of my interest.

Q. What has been your vision and what do you most love about your work?

A. The world is filled with fabulous colors, and there’s so much to take inspiration from. I strongly believe that make-up and grooming is not just about creating a certain look for my clients, however for me it’s also about providing them a level of comfort and a pleasing  atmosphere, giving them quality of work and a good experience where they want to come back.

What excites me the most and I love about my job is a gorgeous pleased client walking out satisfied and happy. Everyone is beautiful, to do make-up and grooming for women of all colors, to enhance that splendor using hues and different shades.  Being able to make your special occasions unforgettable and then seeing appreciation brings a feeling like non-other.

Q. What do you think is your biggest achievement throughout your professional career?

A. Art is an expression and was always my passion. My achievements are my clients.  At the end of the day a pleasing and satisfactory look is what my achievement is. However if we talk about challenges, being a self-made mua, having no artistic family background convincing them for a profession in make-up was a tough call but challenges are the real adventure and I believe convincing them by  my hard work and passion is what I also consider as my achievement. Now I enjoy full support and equal enthusiasm by family member. I enjoy experimenting and creating something out of the box. My challenges are the sfx(special effects) looks that I do. As that’s my genuine passion, to be able to create a scar / stich / bruise mark as physical as it occurs to be is my challenge and the outcomes and appreciations are my achievements.

Q. What are your current projects and what do you plan on doing in the near future?

A. Just a few days back I was working on a small campaign about “Domestic Violence“ depicting it through my make-up, raising  voice against all the evil beings who torture women considering them being weak.  Also I have recently moved to Lahore, soon launching my studio here. Furthermore, I’m also travelling in the near future for work. Along with this I'm also looking for interesting opportunities to gratify my atistic cravings.

Q. A word of advice you would like to pass on to other women struggling with their start-ups?

A. Well, One should always do what they love, and love what they do! As, if your work doesn’t excite you and you’re not passionate about it there’s no point wasting time just for the sake of doing something! No work / profession are small, as long as you have it in you, your talent will take you borders away. Speaking with personal experience let nobody be a blockade for you, set your goals high and learn to take criticism positively as it only leads to growth. DONOT rush, slow and steady always wins the race. Just follow your dreams and do what makes you happy. You’re all set to outshine!
