Floren Bastante from Spain Spectacular Pakistan: An International Sugar Art Collaboration - Interview
I'm Floren Bastante from Dulces el Inflon, I'm 37 years old and I'm from a town in Ciudad Real, Spain.
Since childhood I have always been passionate about fine arts, I loved drawing, painting pictures, crafts ... It was something I enjoyed. Little by little, my interest in classic pastries began to show up and I have to say that my first desserts were not really very edible but, as they say, mistakes are learned.
My beginnings in the sweet world really came back years ago. Everything started thanks to a neighbor who traveled very often for work to Madrid, the capital of the country, where this sugarcraft fashion started and he was the one who made coemzase making and decorating cupcakes for celebrations with friends and family.
Later I started making basic fondant cake. In my town there were hardly any materials and tools for this type of pastry. After the death of my mother with 62 years of age due to cerebral infarction, it was when this hobby for creative pastry became my refuge and therapy to avoid such pain.
Thanks to that I uploaded my work through social networks, little by little I discovered wonderful and charming people with whom I shared the same passion for creative pastry and of which some today are my true friends.
Little by little, my passion for modeling was awakening, a technique that I incorporated into my sweet creations and that were sugar paste until I discovered the plastic chocolate, an advantage of possibilities and creations to do the works and pieces that I do every day from that day. I did some courses with some professions of the sector which made what my passion for the busts is now better.
In September 2016 I decided to take part in a competition at a Barcelona fair where I won the first place and gold medal in my category and where I met colleagues and friends of the creative pastry. The following year I decided to compete in the foreigner, at the November fair in Birmingham also in small modeling category where I obtained a gold medal. This year I am already planning to return to Birmingham and share experience with friends.
Actually someday I would like my passion for the pastry to become my job and be able to devote all the time and hours that I would like, it would be a sweet dream come true. I would also like from here to encourage every person who is reading this to fight for their dreams and one day for sure will be rewarded.
My contribution to this collaboration is a bust in 40 cm plastic chocolate based on a Pakistani wedding suit that I have called Tariq.
